Liberty, Freedom alums celebrate 75 together

The Liberty/Freedom HS class of 1968 has been holding reunions every five years beginning in 1973. Due to the opening of Freedom HS for the 1967-1968 school year, the Bethlehem Area School District set boundaries for attendance at the two public high schools, with about 400 of the seniors designated to attend Freedom and the rest of the seniors remaining at Liberty.

On Sept. 17 about 100 members of that combined high school class attended a birthday party at the Green Pond Country Club to celebrate their 75th birthdays.

Classmates from 1968 enjoyed a buffet luncheon and specialty cookies from the Easton Baking Company while spending time catching each other up on their lives. Most are now retired, and they traveled from near and far.

Small groups who attended various elementary and junior high schools back in the days of their youth posed for photographs in addition to one taken of the large group of attendees, who represented about 10 percent of their original combined senior class.

For four hours the clock was turned back to the 1950s and 1960s for these members of the baby boomer generation as they marked the year of their milestone birthdays together.
