Bath celebrates Old Home Weekend
Bath Borough held its fourth annual Old Home Week, now Old Home Weekend, Sept. 18-21. Most events occurred at Ciff Cowling Field, 301 Allen St. Elected leaders said the weekend was the most successful Old Home event — from beginning to end. The weather was perfect, and the attendance broke records.
Old Home Weekend kicked off Sept. 18 with some local businesses staying open later and water authority and fire department tours.
Magician Tom Yurasits performed Sept. 19 and was followed by an outdoor viewing of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” at Ciff Cowling Field.
The annual softball tournament was held Sept. 20 and was won by the Keystone Cement softball team. Keystone Cement is a sponsor of Old Home Weekend and has a robust volunteer presence in Bath.
Additionally, the community picnic was held Sept. 20, with live music by the Brian Dean Moore Band, a country rock band from Belvidere, N.J.
Bath Borough Council coordinated the construction of the new band shell last year, with a goal to get the new shell built by Old Home Weekend.
A meet and greet with borough community organizations was held Sept. 21. An Elvis impersonator was on hand 5-6 p.m., and the Large Flowerheads, a popular local band with a large fan following, entertained 7-9 p.m. Free haircuts were offered by All-Star Cuts of Bath.
At each event at the field, the concession stand was staffed by a different group. The concession stand was staffed by Scout Troop 33 Sept. 20.
The genesis of Old Home Week occurred in 2022 when borough Councilman Frank Hesch, now council president, was reviewing old borough documents and discovered Bath leaders held an Old Home Week about 100 or so years ago to invite former residents to return to Bath in celebration. The initial Bath Old Home Week was reportedly held in 1912.
Throughout the year, Bath leaders sponsor and/or support numerous events that are beginning to make Bath Borough a destination community and a role model for other local communities.
Old Home Weekend reaches back in history and makes new history by continuing the Old Home effort. A community event of this nature reinforces Bath Borough’s motto of “History, Nestled with Friendship.”
