HI NEIGHBORS: The origin story and development of automobiles through the ages, and the little-known story of Fordlândia, Henry Ford’s failed attempt at a South American rubber plantation, is the topic of the Hi Neighbors speaker program on Monday, Oct. 6. Al Ruozzi, Executive Director of the America on Wheels Museum, Allentown, is the presenter.

The series is offered by First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem, and it begins with a social time at 9:30 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m.

FAITH CRAWL: The Bethlehem Interfaith Group is planning a Faith Crawl, in which bus travelers will visit three Bethlehem houses of faith. The event is planned for Sunday, Oct. 5 from 3-6 p.m. and there is a suggested donation to cover the bus cost. This event is open to the public. All participants must register using this online sign-up form: bit.ly/3KancLF. Participants can also call the First Presbyterian Church at 610-867-5865 to register.

The Faith Crawl will include tours and presentations at Congregation Brith Sholom, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and Respect Graduate School and Mosque.

CROP WALK: The Greater Allentown CROP Hunger Walk is scheduled for Oct. 19. Event day registration begins 1 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown. The walk begins 1:30 p.m. Walkers may choose either a 10K route or a “Golden Mile” route. Walkers who raise $150 or more by Oct. 19 earn a free T-shirt. T-shirts also will be available for purchase on the day of the event. The CROP Hunger Walk is an intergenerational fellowship and service event that benefits those who are struggling in the aftermath of floods, fires, droughts and other disasters throughout the United States and the world.

PICKLEBALL BENEFIT: The Fund to Benefit Children & Youth presents Pickleball for a Purpose, a dynamic fundraising event combining pickleball, cornhole and ping pong tournaments with silent auctions, wine pulls, food and drink, and live music, Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Luke’s Sportsplex, 4636 Crackersport Rd., Allentown.

All funds raised will support The Fund to Benefit Children which provides the goods and services to abused, neglected and at-risk Lehigh Valley kids and teens that no other social service agencies can provide.

WATERSHED CONFERENCE: The 10th Lehigh Valley Watershed Conference will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 at the Ben Franklin Technology Center, 116 Research Drive, Bethlehem. The Center is located on Lehigh University’s Mountain Top Campus.

This year’s conference theme is Back to Basics: Geology, Soils, Water & Ecosystems.

The conference serves as a forum that brings together community watershed organizations, municipal officials, educators, students, scientists, technical experts, natural resource agency staff, industry representatives and the public to discuss effective ways to improve and protect the land and water resources throughout the greater Lehigh Valley.

TRUNK OR TREAT: A Trunk or Treat event has been planned for Saturday, Oct. 18 from noon – 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem.

A “Trunk or Treat” event is a variation of traditional trick-or-treating where children walk from vehicle to vehicle in a parking lot, collecting candy and treats from decorated vehicle trunks instead of going door-to-door in a neighborhood. This large outdoor event will feature vehicles decorated for Halloween, and a special call has been made for vintage vehicles. The vintage vehicles have the option of decorating or not.

Families are encouraged to come in costume. There will also be food trucks, games and activities, and live music from noon-1 p.m.

MORAVIAN LECTURE: 168th annual meeting lecture by Lisa Minardi, executive director of Historic Trappe, where she oversees three historic houses associated with the Muhlenberg family and the Center for Pennsylvania German Studies; Sunday, Oct. 19, 2:30 annual meeting, 3 p.m. lecture. The Moravian Theological Seminary, 60 West Locust St., Bethlehem. The talk will be followed by a reception. The event is free to attend. Registration required.

VOLUNTEER CONFERENCE: The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley is hosting its second annual Nonprofit Impact Conference Nov. 6, 2025, at the Wind Creek Event Center. Following the success of the inaugural event, this year’s conference promises to be even more transformative, with a focus of “Strengthening Connections & Navigating Change.” The event will connect nonprofits together, help them gain actionable insights from expert- led breakout sessions, and discover innovative strategies to help amplify their mission.

OKTOBERFEST: Oktoberfest, presented by Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), returns to the ArtsQuest Campus at SteelStacks for its 15th year of German-inspired fun.

Kicking off for the first weekend, Friday Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 5 with a second weekend set to take place Friday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 12, this FREE festival is packed with German traditions and unique competitions – from official steinholding competitions and pretzel tossing to dachshund races and Kong Pong. Guests can explore Brewers’ Village presented by the Lehigh Valley Brewers Guild, savor authentic bites and brews across four biergartens, shop local artisans and enjoy live music and entertainment throughout both weekends.

WINDISH ANNIVERSARY: St. Joseph’s Windish Slovenian Roman Catholic Church is celebrating the 108th anniversary of the consecration of the church Tuesday, Oct. 28 with a Mass at 11 a.m. A luncheon at Se-Wy-Co Social Hall, 1 Kenny Headman Lane, Bethlehem, will follow the Mass. The public is invited.
