Volunteer opportunities
Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank is seeking volunteers to help in the Client Choice Food Pantry 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday for one or more days per month or 3-6 p.m. Thursday evenings. Help clients select their food and place it in the bags. Clients are very happy to have assistance and help. Training is provided on-site. Assist with literacy activities in pre-K through third grade by providing individual or small-group support under the guidance of classroom teachers with the Allentown School District Foundation. The minimum age to volunteer is 18. Clearances and attendance at a one hour orientation are required. Hours and days are flexible, but volunteers must be willing to commit to a regular schedule of at least one hour per week. Dependable and friendly people are needed to help distribute food to local families and individuals at Grace Community Foundation Food Bank in Allentown 8:30-11 a.m. on the third and fourth Saturdays each month. Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth, is looking for a volunteer to run the gift shop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, maintaining a clean, organized and welcoming atmosphere while providing excellent customer service to guests. The warming station at River Crossing YMCA, Allentown, will reopen for the season Sept. 30 through April 30, 2026. Volunteers are needed 6:30-9:00 p.m., seven days a week, to help welcome guests, serve warm meals, distribute supplies and offer compassionate support to those experiencing homelessness. Volunteers are needed for St. Luke’s University Health Network gift shops at various campus locations throughout the Lehigh Valley. St. Luke’s volunteers help the patients, visitors and staff.
