SHS names student of the week

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mom’s name is Kim, my dad’s name is Matt and my sister’s name is Ella.

Q. As a senior, do you have any specific goals you will pursue this academic year?

A. This year, I hope to continue to excel in my Salisbury classes while also challenging myself with my Lehigh Carbon Community College course. At the same time, I want to enjoy my last year of high school by staying involved and preparing for college.

Q. What is your favorite class at Salisbury High School? Why?

A. Anatomy and Physiology is my favorite class because I enjoyed the hands-on learning experiences, especially dissections. Being able to connect what we studied in class to real life examples made the class worth it. I also found it fascinating to learn how the body functions and how every system works together.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I am the vice president of Salisbury’s National Honor Society chapter, I am also a blood drive coordinator and a member of student advisory. I am in the top of my class and have received high honors for the past three years.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I am on the field hockey and swim teams. Having the opportunity to be involved on these teams has given me long lasting friendships. My teammates have supported me both in and out of the pool and field, and the experiences we’ve shared have made my high school years unforgettable.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge has been learning how to manage academics, athletics and a social life and being able to succeed in them all. I have learned great time management throughout my high school career and learned to keep an even balance of all aspects of my life.

Q. At this time, what are your plans for the future beyond high school?

A. Next year I will attend Kutztown University to major in psychology and continue playing field hockey.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. I would like to spend an evening with Malala Yousafzai. She represents courage and resilience. I admire her ability to overcome obstacles and persevere in the face of adversity. Malala is proof that young people can change the world and if you have enough determination your voice will be heard too.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for my dedication and commitment in everything I take on.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Surround yourself with people who inspire you to be your best. Your friends should uplift you, challenge you and reflect the kind of person you want to become.
