Officials celebrate Cedarbrook center
Lehigh County officials, Cedarbrook administration and employees, guests and media attended a final beam signing Sept. 12 of celebrating the construction of the new Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center at 350 S. Cedarbrook Road, South Whitehall.
The new facility will add 240 beds, which will replace all the beds in the current 1920s-era B and C wings and a few in the D wing. There are a total of 678 beds across the Cedarbrook facilities — 90% of which are Medicare recipients.
The new addition will allow for, at most, two residents per room, whereas the current facility has four per room.
Cedarbrook was founded in 1844 to provide care for Lehigh County residents.
Attending dignitaries were asked to sign the final steel beam that would be installed a few days after the ceremony.
Attendees included Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong; Rick Molchany, county director of general services; Jason Cumello, Cedarbrook administrator; Geoff Brace, Lehigh County Board of Commissioners chair; Commissioners Sheila Alvarado, Ron Beitler and Dan Hartzell; and state Rep. Milou Mackenzie, R-131st.
Also on hand were officers of the Cedarbrook resident council: Jean Larison, president; Karen Snyder, secretary; and Marilyn Berger, vice president.
