In other police news, resolution 403 was made regarding e-bikes. Council approved Chief Christopher Wolfer to apply for a public safety grant at the Aug. 18 meeting. This funding would provide two e-bikes for the department.
Ordinance 448 — involving public nuisances — was approved. This involves using a staggered approach of warnings and fines before issuing a citation and magistrate notice, if necessary. At the Aug. 18 meeting, this ordinance was approved to be advertised to the public.
Treasurer Tricia Tillman said a receipt of $19,829.15 was received for firemen’s relief from the state. The money will be at the disposal of the fire department to use as desired.
A motion to submit the minimum municipal obligation for 2026 to Foster and Foster for uniform and nonuniform borough employees was approved.
Also at the meeting, a sewer backup reimbursement request for 1228 Second St. was not approved. A sewer relief request for Aug. 15-17 for 1048 Fourth St., however, was approved.
Road paving projects are expected to start next month. The roads include Arch Street, between Fifth and Sixth streets, and Green Street, between Lincoln and Seventh streets. If any material is left, the public works department will patch alleys as needed.
Mayor William J. Molchany Jr. said he received a call from a resident about the tax collector not being responsive. It was mentioned the borough does not have control over the tax collector since the position is an elected one.
Molchany said he provided the resident with Catasauqua Area School District contact information since the matter in question involved the resident’s school district taxes.
Borough council met in executive session regarding legal matters.
Council will next meet 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the municipal building, 1066 Fourth St.
