Coplay: Garden club to meet Sept. 25

Coplay Garden Club will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St. The club meets the last Thursday of the month.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., continues its summer concerts. The lineup for Friday night concerts is Stereotype Sept. 26, Honey Buzzards Oct. 3, New Normal Oct. 10, Hunkajunk Oct. 17, Rickey and the Rebels Oct. 24 and Common Bond Oct. 31.

The gates open 5 p.m., and the kitchen opens 5:30 p.m. Bands will play until 10 p.m.

The Honey Buzzards concert is the annual fundraiser, and the Common Bond performance is the Halloween party. Both are open to the public.

Public works Director Paul Boyle announced brush/branch pickup will continue through Sept. 26.

Call the borough office to schedule pickups for sofas, mattresses (plastic encased), chairs, dressers or other large items. There is a limit of two per year at no charge.

Coplay Saengerbund is planning a college football tailgate event Oct. 11. Doors will open 10 a.m.

The price includes keg beer and tailgate food. College football games will be streaming, and there will be tailgate games and a 50/50 raffle.

The Saengerbund heritage committee will present its annual Weinlesefest (grape dance), set for 3-6 p.m. Oct. 12. Wear your German outfits, such as lederhosen, hats, vests and dirndl.

There will be special wine selections, food, a wine-themed sing-a-long, special dances and door prizes. Emil Schanta Band will entertain.

There is a cost.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is planning to hold a baked ziti pickup dinner Oct. 25. The drive-thru pickup window is 4-5:30 p.m.

The menu includes baked ziti, salad, applesauce, roll and dessert.

Freewill donations will be gratefully accepted to defray costs and aid the church’s mission of helping others.

Preorders are required and must be received by Oct. 17. Call Karen at 610-653-2816.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St., is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

The Coplay Scholarship Fund Committee plans to award two $5,000 scholarships to Coplay graduates who enrolled in university, college, technical school or Allentown Police Academy.

Also, if you are from Coplay and desire to become a police officer, the CSFC will pay your tuition at the police academy.

Coplay aerobics classes are held 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Bring dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout.

Explorer Post 101’s mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading to 12-21 year olds. Join the new Explorer Club for youths age 12-14.

Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building.
