Mario F. Visperas - doctor
Dr. Mario F. Visperas, M.D., 92, of Bethlehem, died Sept. 16, 2025. Born in the Philippines, he was a son of the late Ernesto and Gloria (Flores) Visperas. He was the husband of Emiliana “Mely” (Parayno) Visperas for 68 years.
He earned a medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines. He was then a trauma and surgical physician at the Government Provincial Hospital, Philippines.He came to the United States and completed an internship at Fairview Park Hospital, Cleveland, and residencies at Lutheran Hospital, Cleveland and St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. He was a fellow in surgery at Long Island College Hospital, New York. He became medical director of the emergency department at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He was, in 1982, board certified in emergency medicine. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Carbon County Medical Society and the American College of Emergency Physicians. He was a fellow of both the American Society of Philippine Surgeons in America and the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons. He was a past president of the Carbon County Medical Society, representative and medical director of Carbon County EMS, and secretary/treasurer of the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital medical staff.
He was of the Catholic faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Cristina (Kevin Hickey) of Atlanta; Virginia (Paul Uliana), Lourdes (Thomas Falteich) and Mario (Evelyn Daly), all of Bethlehem; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by a sister, Teresita Rabago, and a grandson, Gabriel.
