SHS names student of the week
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My mother’s name is Danielle, my father’s name is James and my sister’s name is Rebecka. I have a dog named Lilly and a hamster named Mac currently.
Q. As a senior, do you have any specific goals you will pursue this academic year?
A. My primary goals for this year are to maintain my GPA in these final months and to finally score a 100 during my last season on our school’s rifle team (a 100 is the maximum points you can score on a single target). I’m also currently working toward finally getting my license.
Q. What is your favorite class at Salisbury High School? Why?
A. My favorite class by far was Mr. Frick’s American Cultures II class last year. The content was interesting (covering World War II until the Cold War), but it was also great to have my favorite teacher teach it. His love for the subject (shown when he tells stories or relates concepts and topics, even when we will not be tested on the material – just to talk about it) is inspiring, not to mention making the class more digestible.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I cannot recall any real awards or special recognition.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?
A. I’m a part of our school’s rifle team (hoping to be team captain this year) and Key Club chapter. The ability to spend so much time with like-minded people doing something I really enjoy is extremely fulfilling.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. I think my biggest challenge is just trying to let myself make mistakes or relinquish control – I’m a bit of a perfectionist.
Q. At this time, what are your plans for the future beyond high school?
A. When I leave high school, I plan to attend college (currently shooting for Kutztown, but plans may change) and get a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance and accounting.
Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?
A. If I could spend an evening conversing with a historically significant person, it would be Jesus Christ. I’m a devout Christian, and I would have so many questions to ask – about misconceptions, theological debates and personal confusions.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like people to remember me as someone who is unapologetically myself – if you think my interests are weird or disagree with my views on things, I’m not going to argue.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Get involved – even if you value your academics as much as I do. If you can help it, spend as much time with your friends as possible and go to as many events (especially the free ones) as you can; besides bonding with your friends, you can meet new people at events (new friends or connections).
