DEAN’S LIST: Anthony Rios of Kutztown and Amanda Flinn of Kempton have been named to the summer 2025 dean’s list at Southern New Hampshire University. The summer terms run from May to August. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the dean’s list. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.
HONOR STUDENTS: Kutztown University announced that 351 students will be part of the university’s Honors Program in 2025-2026.
Area students are Gabriella Cardenas, Laura Gotshall and Anna Wanamaker, all of Kutztown, and Tori Heckman of Germansville.
The Honors Program at Kutztown University provides high-achieving students with opportunities to engage in scholarship, leadership and service. The program, which is undergraduate in nature and open to full-time students, is comprised of a minimum of 21 credits in honors courses including a senior honors capstone project. The 21 honors credits count toward the students’ minimum of 120 credits that are regularly required for graduation. Honors students select specially designed honors courses, course-by-contracts, independent studies and internships to earn honors credit. Students are also required to complete 30 hours of community service before graduation.
AFRICAN CHOIR: The African Children’s Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Kingdom Life Global Ministries, 4333 Lime Kiln Road, Orefield.
Comprised of children ages 9 to 12, all from vulnerable backgrounds across Africa, the African Children’s Choir serves as a powerful testament to the resilience and potential of Africa’s future leaders.

BENEFIT WALK: The 2025 Lehigh Valley Walk for Apraxia will be held on Sept. 28 at Lone Lane Park to benefit children with apraxia of speech. The event begins at 9 a.m. with a ceremony starting at 11 a.m. Registration is free and open to all members of the community. Childhood apraxia of speech is a rare motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for an individual to speak. CROP WALK: The Greater Allentown CROP Hunger Walk is scheduled for Oct. 19. Event day registration begins 1 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown. The walk begins 1:30 p.m. Walkers may choose either a 10K route or a “Golden Mile” route. Walkers who raise $150 or more by Oct. 19 earn a free T-shirt. T-shirts also will be available for purchase on the day of the event. The CROP Hunger Walk is an intergenerational fellowship and service event that benefits those who are struggling in the aftermath of floods, fires, droughts and other disasters throughout the United States and the world.

SENIORS GROUP: Lehigh Gap Nature Center, 8844 Paint Mill Road, Slatington, has announced a new group is forming for nature-minded seniors. BIRD WALK: LGNC Director Chad Schwartz will be hosting a guided autumn bird walk through the Lehigh Gap Refuge 10-11:30 a.m. Oct. 7. Binoculars will be provided to those who do not have them. Although these walks will be geared toward beginner birders, people of all ages are welcome to attend. The walk is free for members. There is a $5 per person fee for nonmembers.
