Hurricanes have a big week ahead

Liberty’s field hockey team has had a season full of runs.

The Hurricanes (5-5) were on a three-game winning streak last week, until they ended the week with a pair of losses to Salisbury and Nazareth.

Head coach Jill Dorn and the ‘Canes now have their most difficult week on tap with Emmaus (8-0) and Easton (8-1) on the schedule this week, but it doesn’t change what Dorn thinks about this team.

“What we love about this team is the way people on the outside looking in have noticed their camaraderie,” said Dorn. “I think knowing just how well they can play has contributed to a spike in confidence, but I’d also like them to shed past seasons and results. Don’t worry about the scores or results of the past, play for the now. I believe they have caught on to that philosophy.”

Liberty is in the thick of the playoff hunt at the moment, but know they need to keep pace in order to give themselves a chance at the end of the season.

They close out the week against Freedom (3-3) on Saturday in a rivalry showdown that will be vital for both teams.

“It’s been a great season of unified objectives,” said Dorn. “I see a lot of hungry players who are eager to put their talent on the field day in and out.”

Freedom just went through the gauntlet of playing Emmaus and Easton last week, losing to the Hornets 10-0 and Easton 6-0, before picking up a 9-0 win over Bethlehem Catholic.

Now they have a week with Northampton (6-3) and Pocono Mountain West (0-8) during the week before they weekend showdown with the Hurricanes.
