Catty rolls by Salisbury

For Catasauqua, it was all about the bounce back.

Heading into their game at Salisbury last week, the Rough Riders were coming off a 42-14 thrashing by Palisades, who has been one of the major surprises of the season.

Bouncing back against Salisbury would be crucial for the direction of their season. Fortunately, the Roughies did in convincing fashion by a 33-7 score.

With the win, Catty bumped its overall record to 3-1, and they will host undefeated Notre Dame (4-0) Friday night at Alumni Field.

Roughies’ head coach Joe Henrich was pleased with his team’s response. The Roughies jumped out to a 26-7 lead at halftime.

“I was proud of our kids,” said Henrich. “They rebounded well from a tough loss last weekend. We were able to set the tone right from the get-go and kept our foot on the gas all night.

“Our defense gave up too many big plays, but they did a good job keeping them out of the end zone. Offensively, we were able to put a few nice drives together.”

Henrich credited junior quarterback Aiden Reilly, who completed nine of 18 passes for 85 yards with a touchdown.

“Aiden had a good overall game for us,” said Henrich. “Though his passing numbers weren’t that high, he had a very good game.”

Reilly also was happy with his team’s overall showing.

“I think all–around as a team, we executed the game plan at a very high level,” said Reilly. “Our line did a tremendous job up front. We were able to do whatever we needed to do because of the guys up front. Our defense looked great getting stops and helping us to maintain possessions.”

He knows Notre Dame will be a stiff test.

“It’s definitely going to be big challenge for us a team,” added Reilly. “We need a very solid week of practice and come out strong Friday night.”

ROUGHIE RUFFLES: Notre Dame roughed up the Roughies, 63-3, last season. The Crusaders have won nine straight, and Catty’s last win was in 2014 by a 28-14 score. The Roughies finished 3-8 that season ... Reilly also ran for 43 yards and scored twice ... Ruben Concepcion was Catty’s leading ground gainer with 49 yards, and Omar Pacheco Jr. caught four balls for 43 yards with a touchdown ... Cadeo Estronza also ran for 43 yards ... Joziah Martinez led the Roughies with eight tackles ... Reilly has completed 26 of 57 for 403 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions for the season ... Tray Dun is Catty’s leading rusher for the season with 217 yards on 35 carries with two touchdowns ... Pacheco has 10 catches for 209 yards with two touchdowns for the season ... Chris Wellington leads the team in tackles with 21 and Martinez has 20 ... Notre Dame quarterback Mett Bodnar has completed 61 of 91 passes for 848 yards with 11 touchdowns and one interception ... His prime targets have been Alex Clark, who has 12 receptions for 123 yards with three touchdowns, and Drew Boyd has 10 catches for 188 yards ... Defensively, Faustie Capobianco leads the Crusaders with 29 tackles, and Boyd and Austin Casale each have 20 stops ... Catty has outgained its opponents, 1,051-943 in yardage, and they have allowed just 441 yards rushing.

PREDICTION (Season record 3-1): This will be the Roughies’ second real test of the season after they couldn’t handle Palisades … Notre Dame’s offense again is in high gear, as the Crusaders have outscored their opponents, 160-36 ... It will help Catty that they are playing at home, and a good home crowd will also help ... Roughies have put up points this season, and they will need to get their running game in gear ... This game will be closer than it has been in the past, but boys’ basketball coach Eric Snyder will owe me another cheesesteak … NOTRE DAME 28-21
