Council approves autumn events

Coplay kids will be out in search of candy Oct. 31, as borough council approved the event at its meeting Sept. 9.
Traditionally, trick or treat is held the Friday closest to Halloween. This year, Halloween is that Friday.
Residents are asked to turn on their porch lights 6-8 p.m. if they wish to hand out treats on this night.
Borough council also approved two other fall-themed events.
A craft fair is planned for Oct. 4 and 5 at the social hall, 165 Cherry St. The hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Coplay Halloween parade will be held 7 p.m. Oct. 21.
Council approved a resolution to authorize a revision to the Regional Act 537 Sewage Plan. This action names Coplay Whitehall Sewer Authority as responsible for implementing the act.
Lehigh County Juvenile Probation was approved to use the borough gym Sept. 29 and 30 and Oct. 1-3 for training.
Coplay Sports also received approval to use the gym Oct. 5.
Borough council approved the sale of a 2013 Ford Expedition to the Lehigh Valley Zoo. The sale price was $4,000. The vehicle had been used by the borough police department.
A new part-time police officer will join the ranks. Alyssa Shubrick has been hired, pending the successful completion of a background check.
Casey Zelena has been appointed emergency management coordinator for the borough. He had been employed by Lehigh County.
Borough council approved a request by Coplay Public Library to use the Saylor Park parking lot noon-6p.m. Oct. 23 for a Vince’s Cheesesteak fundraiser.
Council will next meet Oct. 7, for a workshop, and Oct. 14, for a regular meeting. Both are held 7 p.m. at borough hall, 98 S. Fourth St.
