SHS names student of the week

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents’ names are Maryann and Jennifer Kelley and my younger siblings are Janna and Kirrah. Janna and Kirrah are both two years younger than me. I also have four cats named Luna, Rico, Rosie and Nala.

Q. As a senior, do you have any specific goals that you will pursue this academic year?

A. During this year, my goal is to remain committed to my work and my assignments tenaciously throughout the year.

Q. What is your favorite class at Salisbury High School? Why?

A. Currently, my favorite class is AP World History. I love this class because I love history, and I think it is refreshing to learn about new periods of history in different areas of the world.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have been awarded Character Athlete of the Year for field hockey, MVP for swimming and Most Improved for swimming. I have also won a few awards for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science on both the state and regional level.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I am involved in field hockey, swimming, Student Government, Class Advisory, Model United Nations, National Honor Society and the Volunteer Council of the Lehigh Valley. These various activities shaped my social groups and experiences, giving me countless friends I’ve bonded with through these activities throughout my high school experience.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. One of my biggest challenges so far has been remaining committed and on top of my work throughout school. I pride myself on the hard work I have done in the past and the motivation I have for my future.

Q. At this time, what are your plans for the future beyond high school?

A. Currently, I hope to attend a 4-year university and move to an urban area. I will pursue a degree in either political science or biochemistry to become either an immigration lawyer or a physician assistant. I am still largely undecided on where my education will take me.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. I would choose Karl Marx because I would love to learn more about his philosophical ideology, Marxism and ask him how he would apply it to a modern society like the one we live in today.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as a respectful, responsible student and an empathetic and generous friend.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Remember that you cannot control the actions of others, but you can control your reaction to what others do. Focus on yourself and your goals.
