Emmaus Borough Council adopts latest officials sewage facilities plan from public works committee

Emmaus Borough Council met Sept. 2, addressing a short agenda.

The meeting opened with the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and the first round of personal appeals before moving into the Community Minute and special presentations. However, there were none. Council then approved the reading of the Aug. 18 meeting minutes.

During communications, council reviewed three requests.

The Emmaus Lioness Lions Club sought approval for its annual scarf shower event, which the council sent to the committee level. The scarf shower is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 1, at Triangle Park.

Another request came from Ashley Grosman, who asked to host an event at Triangle Park Oct. 5. This was sent to the committee level as well.

Council also accepted the resignation of Karl Hertwig from the Borough of Emmaus — Upper Milford Township Joint Environmental Advisory Council, effective immediately, noting his contributions to regional environmental initiatives.

The borough engineer and solicitor did not have reports for the meeting.

Council then moved into unfinished and new business; however, there were none. Additionally, there were no items added to the agenda.

Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert did not have a report to present.

The public works committee introduced Resolution 2025-25, adopting an official sewage facilities plan to ensure adequate sewage services, protect water quality and prevent environmental health hazards. The resolution underscored the borough’s obligation to update the plan when necessary to meet disposal needs.

The health, sanitation and codes committee announced its next meeting for Sept. 16, while the parks and recreation committee scheduled its next session Sept. 18.

The public safety committee will meet Sept. 10 and the general administration committee was to hold its next meeting Sept. 3.

The community relations, planning and development committee announced its next meeting for Oct. 7.

The budget and finance committee presented the borough’s financial statements, along with the annual auditor’s report and a breakdown of significant revenues and expenses for August. Resolution 2025-26, authorizing the latest bill list, was approved, totaling $1,229,273.02.

The committee was to reconvene Sept. 3.

Borough Manager Shane Pepe provided his report, which included a recommendation to advance Charles Wesch to Class 3 employee status, a motion approved by council in recognition of his service and qualifications.

With no further public action required, the meeting adjourned, marking the close of a quick evening meeting.
