Council reorganizes due to vice president’s resignation
At the Macungie Borough Council meeting held Sept. 2, council completed a reorganization due to Greg Hutchison resigning as council vice president.
Ron Karboski will remain as president of council. Carl Sell was elected vice president by council and Megan Sell will be pro tem.
Macungie Borough Manager John Brown proposed the hiring of an administrative assistant with a starting rate of $28.50/hour. There is an urgent need for the position to be filled; however, council members expressed concern about the information being received during the meeting giving no time for council members to study the information.
Council member Rob Rozak suggested council have more time to make the decision. Karboski agreed. Council said the decision should be delayed for proper screening of the employee.
There was a hearing for the new parking restrictions along Main Street. The intersections on Main Street (Route 100) involved the north of Pine, the north side of Creek, the south side of Poplar, the south side of Lea and the south side of Pine streets.
There will be signage indicating either no parking, standing or stopping depending upon the area. Parking is defined as “temporary storage of a vehicle, occupied or not.” Standing is “halting a vehicle except momentarily loading or discharging passengers.” Stopping is “complete cessation of movement.”
Details can be found on the Macungie Borough website.macungie.pa.us. These restrictions are effective immediately. Karboski thanked council member Carl Sell for his work on the sign project. Ordinance 2025-02 was approved by all.
Council approved Resolution 2025-06 which is approval of the Official Plan for Act 537. This is a regional project involving sewage facilities.
Friends of the Macungie Institute presented a project for the institute to display artwork within the facility. The shelves would be mounted on the wall to enhance the display of artwork. The project was approved with hope of it being completed by December.
