Pates, ’Canes prep for postseason golf
With the regular golf season winding down, both Freedom and Liberty are looking forward to the postseason.
Freedom began the week with an overall 6-7 record, and the Patriots had Pleasant Valley and Liberty left on their regular-season schedule.
Head coach Mike Evans was optimistic about is team’s chances.
“On paper, Freedom is a slight underdog,” said Evans. “But on the right day, we can find a way to win either match.”
The Patriots will have junior Connor DePaolis (80 average), senior Colin Andrews (83), freshman Audrina Montesano (97), and junior Gianna Ruane (100) competing in the post season East Penn Conference (EPC) tournament, and the District 11 qualifier.
Evans stated that Jordan Ritter was leading the team with a 76 average for the first 11 matches of the season, but in late August the junior left for Boston to attend the Boston Hockey Academy while continuing his schooling with Freedom online. Evans hopes Ritter will return for the 2026 golf season
“Our team scores have been 18-20 strokes higher since Ritter’s departure,” added Evans. “That could be crucial in both the Pleasant Valley and Liberty matches.
Liberty has a 9-5 record to begin the week, and will finish their season with Freedom.
The Hurricane save been paced by juniors Jake Wachinski and Cameron Rodriguez, and senior Trent Stahley. who all have been within two strokes of each other with averages around 80. Sophomore Andrew Erfle has been the Canes’ number four player with an 85 average.
Head coach Steve Bradley also has been impressed with his front three as well as his supporting staff.
“We have gotten some really steady play from the middle of our lineup,” said Bradley. “Sophomores Connor Wieand and Ryan Dunn have kept the team competitive and have both improved greatly from last year. Freshman John Kintzer has made most of our matches as our seventh or eighth man along with junior Nick Sabol.”
“Rodriguez, Wachinsky, Stahley, and Erfle can make some noise in the postseason.”
