KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY
FACULTY AWARDS: Dr. Gregory Kaufinger, professor of accounting, and Dr. Andrew Vogel, professor of English, have been awarded Kutztown University’s 2025 Chambliss Faculty Research Awards for their extraordinary research and scholarship endeavors. The awards were presented during the university’s Faculty and Staff Convocation and Celebration, Aug. 22.
Kaufinger has been a professor of accounting at KU since 2018 and has also served as discipline coordinator for accounting and interim MBA director. Since joining KU in 2018, Kaufinger has authored or co-authored 10 journal articles under the applied integrative/application scholarship (AIS) category and one under the teaching and learning scholarship (TLS) category. He was also the primary author on seven of the AIS publications and the sole author on the TLS case.
Vogel has been a professor at KU since 2007, the chair of the English department from 2012-20 and became the KU Honors Program director in 2023. Since Vogel began at KU, he has been working on a book, “Narrating a New Mobility Landscape in the Modern American Road Story, 1893-1921: Ambivalence and Aspiration.” He has also published multiple scholarly articles and his poems have been published in both national and international publications.
MID-ATLANTIC HONORS: Kutztown University has been ranked as one of the Best Colleges in the Mid-Atlantic Region by The Princeton Review for 2026. The education services company is widely known for its test prep programs and college and graduate school guides. KU is among 98 institutions named to the mid-Atlantic regional list.
Kutztown University has been included in the regional list in 23 consecutive rankings, dating back to the 2004 rankings released in August 2003.
GOLF TOURNAMENT: The Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph the Worker Council No. 10921, will host its 13th annual golf tournament on Sept. 12, rain or shine. The event will take place at The Club at Twin Lakes, 3625 Shankweiler Road, North Whitehall Township. Registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by an 8 a.m. shotgun start for a four-person scramble. AFRICAN CHOIR: The African Children’s Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Kingdom Life Global Ministries, 4333 Lime Kiln Road, Orefield.
Comprised of children ages 9 to 12, all from vulnerable backgrounds across Africa, the African Children’s Choir serves as a powerful testament to the resilience and potential of Africa’s future leaders.

CROP WALK: The Greater Allentown CROP Hunger Walk is scheduled for Oct. 19. Event day registration begins 1 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 140 S. Ott St., Allentown. The walk begins 1:30 p.m. Walkers may choose either a 10K route or a “Golden Mile” route. Walkers who raise $150 or more by Oct. 19 earn a free T-shirt. T-shirts also will be available for purchase on the day of the event. The CROP Hunger Walk is an intergenerational fellowship and service event that benefits those who are struggling in the aftermath of floods, fires, droughts and other disasters throughout the United States and the world.

BENEFIT WALKS: The Northeast Region of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America will host the 2025 HDSA Team Hope Walk Sept. 13 at Lehigh Valley at Hopewell Park Pavilion, 4695 West Hopewell Road, Center Valley. The 2025 Lehigh Valley Walk for Apraxia will be held on Sept. 28 at Lone Lane Park to benefit children with apraxia of speech. AUTUMN HAWKWATCH: Counters and interpreters will tally migrant raptors daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Dec. 15.
SONGBIRD MIRGRATION: Join DaVinci Science Center and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary 8 to 10 a.m. Sept. 13 for a hands-on day exploring migratory songbirds through banding demos, bird walks, interactive activities, and migration science. Registration is required.
BROADWING BUDDY: Celebrate International Hawk Migration Week and watch for our most numerous migrant, the broad-winged hawk, Sept. 15 to 19. The $25 Broadwing Buddy Pass offers unlimited trail admission Monday through Friday. Redeem in the Visitor Center.
