The staff went all out to make students feel welcome as Northwestern Elementary celebrated the first day of the 2025-2026 school year on Aug. 25.
From the moment cars and busses lined up and doors opened, students were greeted with beautiful sidewalk art, signs, music, costumes, and many smiling faces, kicking off the new year with fun and excitement.
Music teacher, Shawn Fies, brought the perfect vibe to the morning by playing his ukulele and singing his “The First Day is the Best Day of the Year” song.
Everyone was happy to see the school’s emotional support dog, Baxter, as they played Rock Paper Scissors before entering.
The halls were filled with laughter, bright decorations, and lots of joy.
Everyone made sure the first day was a cheerful celebration and a perfect start to what’s sure to be a fantastic school year.
Before the students arrived, the staff added colorful messages and artwork to walkways. Sidewalk chalk is fun for all ages.
Hunter R. is excited for lunch with friends. Lunch and recess are his favorite time of day, and so much fun.
The first day is a pretty big deal for all, but for Anika R., it’s also a super special day. On her birthday she met lots of new friends.
With a backpack full of everything she needs to begin the school year, Audrey S. arrived with tissues to donate to her classroom and a new eraser for playing Rock Paper Scissors. She’s ready to see her friends.
Enthusiastic siblings Will and Thomas G. stopped for a brief summer recap on the way to their classrooms. Will is thrilled to be at school with his big brother.
