Golf for the Kids The annual St. Anne’s School Golf Tournament

Over 100 golfers turned out Aug. 8 to support St. Anne’s School in a prize-filled tournament at the Bethlehem Public Course.

For the school, the goal was to wrap up the income needed to pay for a new floor in the school’s lunch room, which doubles as a meeting space for St. Anne’s Parish. A down payment on the project was created in the 2024 tournament covered in the Bethlehem Press last year.

This second effort was a success financially for the school and a great outing for the golfers. A highlight of the day was an excellent lunch at which awards for all sorts of accomplishments on the course were distributed as follows:

Top foursome was Seever Hoyak, Joe Gensoli, JJ Jordan and Mike LaDuca. They had their pick of a round from Butter Valley, Olde Homestead and Whitetail

Second place was the foursome of Dave Fries, Joe Reese, Jeff Hess and Mike Barron. They also took one of those three free rounds as a prize.

Third place went to Jeff Baker, Rick Cacciatore, Jim Mintzer and Chris Meischeid and they took the remaining of those three free round prizes.

A six-way tie developed for third and used a tiebreaker process to narrow it to one.

The final foursome prize went to the team of Matthew Bartelt, Dave Higgins, Jacob Moser and Steve Plesko. They each received a certificate to play the Bethlehem Golf Club course again.

Closest to the Pin Winner landed 3 feet 2 inches from the hole on #4. Dave Haklar was awarded a certificate for two to play a round at The Steel Club.

The women’s category Longest Drive on #18 was won by teenager Audrina Montesano and the men’s category winner was Rob Donchez. Each was awarded a free round at Green Pond.

A St. Anne’s School golf tournament would not be complete without a photo of a graduate, Drew Karabin, who led a renewal of the tournament some years ago when it was close to disappearing.
As the carts roared by on their way to each group’s starting point, this pair passed so quickly that a busy photographer didn’t get their names.
This quartet was encountered as they played the par 5, 18th hole. A superb iron shot by Joe Gensoli from about 120 yards followed by a dead-on putt of eight feet by Siever Hoyak produced a birdie. Not surprisingly, this foursome – which included J.J. Gordon and Mike Laduca – ultimately won the tournament.
