Field hockey team loses to Parkland
The Northampton field hockey team’s quest to claim a road win against Parkland Tuesday night got off to a good start as they earned the first two corners of the game and owned possession for much of the early part of the first quarter.
However, they drew a green card for violating the 5-yard distance with 1:45 left in the period putting them a player down. The Trojans took full advantage, earning a pair corners after the clock had hit zeroes and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Kamryn Karrat.
That goal, plus another Parkland tally in the first minute of the second period, this one by Olivia Estaban, completely took the wind out of the Kids’ sails. They surrendered an additional goal before the half and two more in the final quarter to fall 5-0.
“Parkland came out with a mission and they executed their game plan and we did not,” lamented Kids’ head coach Carrie Saul. “They had suffered a tough loss last night and the were going to turn it around tonight regardless, so we just caught them on the wrong day. The goal at the end of the first killed us.”
With the regular season a little past its one-third mark, the K-Kids are 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the EPC. However, those three losses are all against the “Big 3” of the EPC: Emmaus, Easton, and Parkland.
While there are some quality teams left on their schedule, there is certainly an opportunity for Northampton to run the table and get the four seed once the EPC playoffs start.
Saul isn’t looking ahead. “I think now we need to a little bit of confidence. We need to get our confidence back because I think tonight hurt a little bit. Hopefully, we can turn it around because the sun always rises the next day.”
