Bethlehem Catholic’s girls soccer team hosted Nazareth on Sept. 8, but after a strong defensive effort, the Golden Hawks fell to the Blue Eagles, 2-0.
The teams were scoreless at halftime, but Nazareth found the back of the net twice, the first on Bella Danise’s penalty kick and the second off a corner.
Nazareth’s offensive urgency late in the first half kept Becahi goalie Sophia Arvelo active for three straight minutes.
Arvelo slid toward the ball to save a goal by Danise and struck down a ball shot by Abby Kilareski.
Arvelo also made a diving save on a ball from Julia Sandt that originated with Danise.
Becahi defender Vivian Dieterich headed out a Nazareth corner kick after kicking the ball out from under Danise, also in the first half.
Arvelo made 10 saves in the match.
Becahi’s offense had difficulty maintaining possession in the second half when Nazareth kept the ball in Golden Hawk territory for most of the 40 minutes.
Also on Sept. 8, Freedom’s girls ended in a 1-1 tie with Allentown Central Catholic
Becahi is scheduled to host city rival Liberty on Sept. 12.
