Jancsarics named to athletic honor roll

Lauren Jancsarics, of Bethlehem, is one of nearly 200 Lebanon Valley College student-athletes named to the first-ever Eastern Athletic Communications Association (EAST-COMM) Academic Honor Roll. Student-athletes from 33 different institutions were recognized. Student-athletes on the list needed to have at least sophomore eligibility and a 3.4 cumulative GPA to be nominated, with their school being a member of EAST-COMM.

Jancsarics, a graduate of Freedom HS, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science at LVC.

Saucon Valley student honored

Samuel VanNorman, a Lower Saucon resident and Saucon Valley HS senior, was attending a Scouts of America leadership training event in New Mexico when he was called into action to apply the scout motto of “Be prepared.”

A man collapsed in the training center’s parking lot. With the aid of an AED, VanNorman was able to revive and calm the person until EMTs arrived.

VanNorman is an active scout locally and nationally and is working on becoming an Eagle Scout. He’s served as a junior councilman in Lower Saucon Township, and a volunteer firefighter. After graduation, he plans to attend college and go into law enforcement.

Broczkowski new head of BASD Foundation

The Bethlehem Area School District has announced that Ed Broczkowski is the new president of The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District.

He is a graduate of BASD schools and a lifelong member of the Bethlehem community, where he has built strong roots through his family, his career and his volunteer service.

For the past 28 years, Broczkowski has worked at Just Born Inc. He has long supported BASD schools, students and teachers, and he believes strongly in the power of education to change lives.

“Ed Broczkowski’s deep connection to our community and his unwavering commitment to public education make him an outstanding choice to lead the foundation,” said Dr. Jack Silva, superintendent of the Bethlehem Area School District. “We look forward to working together to expandopportunities and resources that benefit every student in BASD.”
