Lisa Roth, a dedicated member of the Parkland School Board and a steadfast advocate for education, has been awarded the prestigious Julia B. Miles Champion for Children Award. The award, presented by the Pennsylvania State Education Association, recognizes adults who have made a significant impact in the realm of education, embodying the spirit and dedication of its namesake, Julia B. Miles.
Miles, a former Spanish teacher and union president in the Easton Area School District, was known for her decades of service to education and the community. Like Miles, Roth’s commitment to students, families and educators has been a hallmark of her career.
Roth’s service to the Parkland School Board began in November 2009. During her tenure, she has been a tireless advocate, also serving as the Parkland representative on the board of Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21, where she championed support for children with special needs.
Currently, Roth chairs the policy and finance committee for the district and serves as president of the board of the Parkland Community Library, reinforcing her belief in lifelong learning.
Beyond her board duties, Roth’s passion for education has led her to work directly with students as an instructional assistant in the deaf and hard of hearing class at the Whitehall-Coplay Early Learning Center through CLIU 21. A lifelong learner herself, she is currently studying American Sign Language and immersing herself in occupational, physical and speech therapies to better support children with unique needs.
The Julia B. Miles Champion for Children Award is a fitting recognition for Roth, whose leadership, compassion and relentless drive to make a difference continue to inspire her community.
