Guest View: Fall Ahead at Your Library

September is National Library Card Signup Month!

This year’s inspiring theme is “One Card, Endless Possibilities.”

The library invites everyone to embark on exciting scavenger hunts for all ages.

Complete the hunt for a chance to win delightful prizes.

Moreover, by signing up for a library card, renewing a card or checking out items during this special month, you will be automatically entered into a drawing.

Don’t have a library card? It’s free for residents of the Parkland School District.

You can easily apply online at https://parkland.chilipac.com/eg/opac/register.

Need to renew your card? Just call 610-398-1361 and have your card number handy.

Join us for our “All Out Library Social” event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 13.

Discover the library’s hidden treasures and enjoy light refreshments.

Earn book bucks for the Friends of the Library bookshop while learning about our special collections.

The Summer Reading Club closing party took place Aug. 9, welcoming 467 visitors to the library that day.

A total of 745 enthusiastic readers signed up for the Summer Reading Club in 2025, both on paper and via the Beanstack app. What an achievement.Look for the library out in the community.

Our next stop is South Whitehall Community Day 4-8 p.m. Sept. 27 at Covered Bridge Park.

If you missed the former Touch a Truck event, this new event beautifully combines Family Safety Day with the Sunset to Summer celebration.

Exciting news!

The library will be virtually adopting a cow in October through the Discover Dairy program.

Download the Discover Dairy app or follow the library’s social media for updates on the journey of a 100-pound dairy calf. It will be an amazing experience.

I hope you had the opportunity to explore the Friends of the Library’s inspiring annual used book sale in August.

Discover even more treasures with book bucks.

Today is a wonderful day to learn something new. Everyone is warmly welcomed at the library.

Maryellen Kanarr is the executive director of the Parkland Community Library, South Whitehall.
