Picture days scheduled

The first week of school is in the rear view mirror and the start of the new school year can be a big adjustment for both students and parents. If the days seem packed with homework and extracurricular activities or just getting used to the routine of getting kids to bed on time, up in the morning and on the school buses, you can count on The Press to keep you informed.

Salisbury Elementary School will hold an open house for families to meet your child’s teacher, tour the building and see first hand all the exciting changes that have taken place over the summer from the library reconfiguration to new flooring and a fresh look in the cafeteria 7-8:15 p.m. Sept. 4.

SES T-shirt day will be Sept. 5.

Families are encouraged to attend the Salisbury High School open house which will take place 6:45-9 p.m. Sept. 25.

Mark your calendars for picture day in all three schools during the month of September. Salisbury Middle School will have picture day Sept. 11, SES will record smiles Sept. 15 and SHS picture day will be Sept. 17.

Salisbury Township School District is seeking nominations for the Salisbury Distinguished Alumni Wall of Honor. Nominees must be a Salisbury graduate at least 25 years old, achieve success in his or her chosen field and make a lasting impact on the community. All nominations must be postmarked by Oct. 1.

Scout Pack 439 is currently open for sign ups. Interested parents with boys or girls in kindergarten through grade 5 can find information about Scouting at BeAScout.org, Pack 0439. Upcoming events for those interested in finding out more about Scouting include a kickoff picnic 6-8 p.m. Sept. 3 at St. Thomas More Church and an overnight camp out at Shankweiler’s Drive-In Sept. 13.

Did you know Home Depot offers free in-store kids’ workshops on the first Saturday of every month? Kits, tools and a nifty orange apron are provided with instructions to build planes, birdhouses, games and holiday centered projects. Don’t worry if you are all thumbs, there is always someone to lend a hand whenever you have questions — after all it is Home Depot! The next kids’ workshop will be held Sept. 6 and crop duster planes will be the featured activity. Check the store website to register online at www.homedepot.com/c/kids-workshop.

Get ready to step back in time for a musical adventure with the band AM Radio at Franko Park 1-4 p.m. Sept. 27 featuring songs from the 1960s and 1970s. Bring a blanket or chair and don your favorite tie-dye attire for what is sure to be a groovy time with friends and family. Top of the Hill Grill food truck will be available to feed hungry patrons as well as the So Cool Ice Cream Truck.

The township yard waste drop-off sites are open. The Devonshire site will be open Sept. 4 and 6 and the Franko drop-off site will be open Sept. 8, 11 and 13. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
