Workshop offered on learning to dry hardwood lumber
Penn State Extension will offer a three-day workshop for those interested in learning how to dry hardwood lumber to maximize product quality and value.
The program “Kiln Drying of Hardwood Lumber Short Course” will be held 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 9-11, at the Livestock Evaluation Center, 1494 W. Pine Grove Road, Pennsylvania Furnace.
The introductory short course is designed for kiln operator trainees, plant managers and supervisors, or anyone who needs a basic understanding of drying hardwood lumber.
No previous drying experience or training is necessary.
Participants will learn how to handle lumber before drying, as well as the steps involved in the process to dry hardwood lumber efficiently and with minimal defects.
Other topics include:
•Wood moisture.
•Kiln operation.
•Lumber handling and storage.
•Drying schedule preparation.
•Drying defects.
Space is limited and registration is required. An early bird registration fee is available through Aug. 27. After Aug. 27, the registration fee will increase. The registration fee covers lunch all three days.
