Boys soccer team looking to improve
Catasauqua head boys’ soccer coach Josh Inman saw some teachable moment after his team’s 6-1 loss to Whitehall in their season opener.
“It was a tough way to start the season, but it does teach us a lot and helps us to prepare for the future games,” said Inman. “Whitehall is considerably larger than us, so it makes it tough to try and truly compete.”
“But we did try hard and the effort was there for most of the boys, and that’s all we can ask as coaches.”
Senior Jayden Olivencia tallied the Roughies’ lone goal off a penalty kick, and junior Liam McGinley had a strong game in the nets.
McGinley continues to improve his overall game.
“Liam McGinley did a fantastic job for us. He made a good amount of great saves to keep the score where it was. He has really developed over the last few years. But since he has started as a freshman, Liam is becoming a dependable shot stopper and leader on the field.”
The Roughies lost to both Jim Thorpe (1-0) and Wilson (5-0) in more recent games. They lost to Jim Thorpe, 2-1, and Wilson, 4-1, last season. Catty ended last year with an overall 3-14 record.
Inman plans to take a realistic look the rest of the way.
“I think we have to take a step back after this game and look at it for what we can improve upon and also what is a difficulty due to sheer size of the school,” added Inman.
“Depth will always be difficult for us with our size vs a larger school so that has to be accounted for otherwise I think we had some inexperience and surprises to guys who are either new to playing a lot of minutes or are in new positions so we just need time and experience to improve overall.
“I think we are on the way of reaching some of the goals that the coaching staff set in place for this year.”
