E. Allen requests residents’ favorite township views

East Allen Township Manager Brent Green is asking township residents to assist in the effort of open space development and farmland preservation.

At the board of supervisors’ Aug. 14 meeting, Green said East Allen Township in 2023 overwhelmingly voted to enact an open space tax to preserve farmland and open space in the township. The open space plan is now nearing completion, and the township is asking residents to share their favorite views — via photos — in East Allen Township.

Residents who participate in this effort could find their photos incorporated into the final version of the open space plan’s online and written materials. Green noted the township plan will give credit to all who provided pictures that are selected.

To participate in the program, email or drop off your favorite photo of East Allen Township and provide the location of the photo. For assistance in submitting a photo or questions about the project, contact the township office at 610 262-7961 or email eatwp.org

In other business, the board voted to appoint Dave Schleder to the township’s zoning hearing board.

The supervisors approved Resolution 2025-15, authorizing the destruction of township records. The township staff, according to Green, has been proactively updating the township’s records. The goal is to destroy records deemed not necessary by regulation.

A discussion by the supervisors over the township public works storage building, 7342 Driftwood Road, was also held. Because of the complexities of the project, no action will be taken until the entire scope of the project is presented.

East Allen Township was awarded $165,000 from the Monroe County Local Share Account for the purchase and upfit of a rapid response vehicle for the township. The board approved a change order for the vehicle upfitting in the amount of $1,602.

Supervisors approved a portioned payment for the Bicentennial Park habitat restoration project, which included construction of a passive park area with wetland features, bridges and an overlook pier. The project was awarded to Cuz Excavating LLC in the amount of $445,847.10.

The payment, in the amount of $125,482.68, is based on the status of completed work.

The supervisors also approved a request to amend the Regency at Creekside Meadows declarations. The request, in part, is to amend the requirements of the age restriction and increase the percentage of residents from the requirements under the Fair Housing Act.

Although Creekside Meadows is a private entity, the declaration must be approved by the supervisors per the Fair Housing Act.

Supervisors discussed the roadside mower situation. In 2023, the township mower was destroyed due to a fire while it was parked. The township, in 2024, purchased an NH Powerstar 75 tractor with a rear-mount flail mower and also a rear-offset flail mower. Because of increased mechanical breakdowns, Green provided information about a possible purchase of another used mower.

The supervisors requested Green seek additional prices of both used and new mowers and revisit the discussion at upcoming board meetings.

East Allen Township Board of Supervisors will next meet 7 p.m. Sept. 10 and 25 at the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd. They are hybrid meetings, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eat.org to review the meeting agendas and learn how to access the meetings virtually.
