Kindergarten orientation Connecting incoming students, families

Northwestern Elementary welcomed incoming kindergarten students and their families to Kindergarten Orientation, Aug. 2.

During orientation, families had an opportunity to meet their teachers, explore classrooms, familiarize themselves with their new learning environment and ride the bus. The event is designed to connect incoming students and their families with the NWE staff, meet classmates, help ease nerves and prepare the Class of 2038 for a successful transition into elementary school as they begin their educational journey.

Kindergarten teachers Wendy White, Jordan Wessner and Loribeth Knauss warmly welcomed everyone into their classrooms and shared information about daily routines, expectations, snacks and other important details so everyone feels more comfortable and confident on the first day.

Afterward, students got to ride on a school bus, many for the first time, and then celebrated with freeze pops provided by Northwestern Elementary’s parent teacher organization, Partners in Education.

For parents, it’s a great way to get a sense of the school community and what to expect throughout the year.

After his first school bus ride, Bentley happily enjoyed a green freeze pop provided by NWE PIE. He’s ready to roll into kindergarten on the first day.

Supported by teacher Cathy Clifford, new Tiger William couldn’t resist a little jump splash in the puddle as he exited the bus. After the bus ride he went into the library to reconnect with his family.
Brooks, along with his parents Elizabeth and Sean, is super excited to go to school with his big brother. He might’ve chosen to stay and begin immediately if it was up to him.
Mom Deniz, big sister Zoey, and Gram Debbie were happy to share this milestone with the family’s newest little Tiger, Josie. She’s already filled with Tiger Pride and looking forward to making new friends.
