Sept. 6 and 7
Union Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville, invites the community to Bookfest 2025 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Family Life Center. All books are free and available for all ages. If you would like to donate books in very good condition with appropriate content, call the church office at 610-767-6884.
Sept. 7
The Sanctuary at Haafsville will hold a wine and ice cream fundraiser noon to 5 p.m. with Sleepy Cat Urban Winery and The Udder Bar at 1840 and 1852 W. Allen St., Allentown. Sleepy Cat will donate $1 for every bottle of wine purchased and the Udder Bar will donate 10% of the ice cream sales. There will be a basket raffle and weather permitting, adoptable cats and dogs will be on the premises. The first 50 guests will receive a cat and/or dog bag.
Sept. 8
Jewish Community Center of the Lehigh Valley, 702 N. 22nd St., Allentown, will hold a seven week scrapbooking after school enrichment program for kids in second through eighth grades 5-6 p.m. Mondays until Nov. 10.
There will be no class Sept. 22, Oct. 6 and 13. Each week, participants will explore a fun new theme – from favorite animals to family adventures – and help kids design personalized scrapbook pages using paper, stickers and more.
The JCC’s 10-week Fairytale STEAM for kids ages 3-5 will take place 3:30-4:15 p.m. Mondays until Nov. 10. Fairy tales aren’t just cute stories; they are engaging worlds full of fun characters and life lessons. In this class, participants will read a familiar fairy tale and then test different parts of the story using STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). The Parkland Garden Club will meet at Jordan Lutheran Church, 5103 Snowdrift Rd., Orefield. The program “Creative Gift Ideas” will be presented by Maryann DeSanto. Using the principles of design, DeSanto will present creative ways to wrap gifts and gift cards. Doors open 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and socialization. Program starts 7 p.m. Guests are welcome. Sept. 9
“All Out Library Social” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Parkland Library. Learn about the library’s many hidden treasures and enjoy some light refreshments. Earn book bucks for the Friends of the Library book shop while learning about the special collections in the library.
Sept. 13
Tickets are now available for the chicken barbecue 4-6:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station for eat in; 7 p.m. for take out. The meal will include half a chicken, baked potato, corn-on-the-cob, lettuce with bacon dressing, beverage and dessert. A children’s option will have two drumsticks, macaroni and cheese, applesauce, cookie and beverage. Call 610-262-8061 for tickets and payment. Takeouts will not include a beverage.
Sept. 20
Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1343 Long Lane Road, Kutztown, will be holding an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner 4-7 p.m. The meal includes salad bar, dessert and beverage. Take out is also available. Emmaus Garden Club will present “Bounty In Bloom,” a club flower show 2-7 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St., Emmaus. This event is free and open to the public.
Sept. 27
South Whitehall Community Day will be held 4-8 p.m. at Covered Bridge Park, 2426 Lapp Road, Allentown. Live music from “Flirtin’ with the Mob” will be presented 6-8 p.m. A vendor trail, various kids’ entertainment, face painting, junior firefighter games, CPR and safety skills, crafts and food trucks will also be available. A Crazy About Quilting Celebration, presented by the Crazy Quilters Quilt Guild, is being held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 4601 Tilghman St., Allentown. See a display of over 100 quilts and quilted items, the sale of handmade quilted articles and recycled “stash” items and quilting demonstrations. Food will also be available.
