NWLMS student wins state environmental poster contest

Farrah Leonard, a student at Northwestern Lehigh Middle School, is earning statewide recognition for her creativity and commitment to environmental awareness.

Her artistic talents recently earned her first place at both the county and state levels of the 2025 Environmental Science Poster Contest.

Organized locally by the Lehigh County Conservation District, the contest challenged K–12 students to illustrate this year’s theme: “Home is Where the Habitat Is.”

Farrah’s poster was first selected as the top entry in Lehigh County’s seventh through ninth grade division before advancing to the state competition, hosted by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts.

There, she also captured first place in the seventh through ninth grade division.

“I wanted my poster to feel like a gentle reminder that the earth is a shared home. When we protect habitats, we protect the heartbeats of so many lives,” Farrah explained.

Farrah’s award-winning poster will now represent Pennsylvania in the national competition this winter, where it will compete against other top entries from across the country.

Farrah’s accomplishment is a shining example of Tiger PRIDE in action, and Northwestern Lehigh Middle School is excited to cheer her on as her poster heads to nationals!
