During the Aug. 18 North Catasauqua Borough Council meeting, council announced the borough received one bid for a new garbage services contract — from J.P. Mascaro and Sons, which is the borough’s current hauler. The current contract is up at the end of this year.
The bid is currently with the solicitor to make sure everything fits the guidelines. The borough has 30 days to respond to Mascaro upon the bid opening.
Council will discuss the contract at the next meeting.
Police Chief Christopher Wolfer said he will be applying for a public safety grant. He is looking to attain two e-bikes for the police department.
It was announced a Scouting America Minsi Trails Council event will be held noon-2 p.m. Aug. 30 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.
“Come out and join us for live demonstrations of Scout skills, hands-on activities and exciting games,” a flier posted on the North Catasauqua Borough website states. “Try your hand at Lego Pinewood Derby races, Raingutter Regatta boat races, gaga ball and so much more. Discover the adventure that awaits in Scouting.”
In other news, Secretary Tasha Jandrisovits said the zoning hearing board will meet 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 regarding the proposed sober-living facility at 1001-1003 Second St.
On Sept. 23, the planning commission will hear of proposed developments of homes at 820-834 Hunter St. and 1250 Seventh St.
Council approved a request by Catasauqua Youth Athletic Association to hold soccer practice at the field 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays and 5-7 p.m. Wednesdays.
Also at the meeting, the nuisance ordinance was approved to be advertised to the public.
Additionally, the trash ordinance revision was fully approved. Residents are not allowed to put out their bins more than 24 hours before scheduled pickup, and residents must remove their bins no more than 24 hours after pickup.
The current once-a-month meetings for the summer schedule have ended. Come September, council will again meet twice a month.
Council will next meet 7 p.m. Sept. 2 at the municipal building, 1066 Fourth St. Note the date change due to the Labor Day holiday.
