LM Connie Mack team finishes 8-8-1
The Lower Macungie Senior Connie Mack baseball team ended the season on a four-game losing streak.
On Monday, July 7, the Mustangs were shutout at Northampton, 7-0. Two nights later, Lower Mac was downed 7-4 at home against South Parkland. Last Tuesday in the regular season finale, the Mustangs dropped a road game at Forks Township, 5-1.
Lower Macungie was outhit 9-2 by Northampton, which scored three runs in both the first and second innings to take full control of the game. Justin Spagna and Gavin Galligani combined for the two hits for their team.
In the game with the Trojans, South Parkland opened the game with three runs in the top of the third, but Lower Mac answered with two runs in the bottom-half of the frame, aided by a two-run error.
The Trojans tallied two runs in the top of the fourth inning and one in each of the next two before the Mustangs rallied for two in the bottom of the sixth on a bases-loaded walk by Ben Roth and a fielder’s choice from Spagna. Rocco Gasper and Spagna led the lineup with two hits and both Roth and Daniel Rusiecki had a hit.
Forks Township took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before Lower Macungie tied it with a run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Gasper.
Forks responded with a run in the second to take back the lead and then added three more in the third to hold on for the victory. Roth finished with a team-high three hits in three at-bats. Gasper, Spagna and Carter Granitz all finished with a hit.
Lower Macungie finished the regular season 8-8-1 overall and placed 10th out of 23 teams in the Lehigh Valley League standings.
