LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

The Great Allentown Fair is back for the 173rd edition, Aug. 27 through Sept. 1, Allentown Fairgrounds, west of 17th Street between Liberty and Chew Streets, Allentown.

Lehigh Valley’s longest-running festival is run by the Lehigh County Agriculture Society, which owns and operates the 46-acre property in Allentown’s West End, the site of Fairgrounds Farmers Market, Agri-Plex, Farmerama Theatre and other buildings where agricultural contests, culinary competitions and demonstrations, arts and crafts displays and entertainment are held.

In addition to the thrill rides, concession stands and games of skill at the Allentown Fair, the biggest attractions are the concerts and events at the Allentown Fairgrounds Grandstand, including the headliners Heart, Aug. 27; Alabama, Montgomery Gentry, Aug. 28; Kane Brown, Kameron Marlowe, Aug. 29; Ace Frehley, Great White, Quiet Riot, Aug. 30, and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesia, Aug. 31.

The J&J Demolition Derby will be held Sept. 1.

The Allentown Fair is said to be one of the oldest fairs in the United States and one of the largest in Pennsylvania. It was first held in 1852.

The Fair stays true to its agricultural roots with a petting zoo, livestock judging and home-garden contests. It is also a major Lehigh Valley entertainment draw.

The Fair is extending hours at its Main Box Office. Show, ride tickets and half-price Fair admission are also available at Ticketmaster.com
