Zoning ordinance amendments discussed
The Aug. 12 meeting of the Lower Macungie Township Planning Commission involved discussing zoning ordinance amendments.
The planning commissioners wanted to clarify these changes would have to do with administration and enforcement and would not be policy in nature.
Lower Macungie Township Planner Nathan Jones said the changes would help the township process applications and deal with administrative and enforcement matters in an expedited, more streamlined and helpful fashion.
The three sections changed were the definitions section, as well as signage and parking.
There was a discussion about the commercial zone design guidelines.
Township Commissioner Maury Robert questioned if there are copies available for others to review in advance of the next meeting. Jones said the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners or anyone else could look at the changes beforehand, but it is still a draft and is subject to changes.
The planning commissioners were asked to look through the zoning ordinance changes and there will be a discussion about the changes at the September meeting.
Jones gave an update about the project at 617 N. Krocks Road, saying the township continues to work with Upper Macungie Township regarding the light at the intersection.
Jones said it looks like the traffic light discussion is coming to a resolution in the near future.
The mixed use project includes town houses and carriage homes, a hotel and a commercial and restaurant area.
The next Lower Macungie Township Planning Commission meeting will be Sept. 11.
Usually the planning commission meets the second Tuesday of every month and occasionally there is a workshop meeting on the third Tuesday of the month. There will be no workshop in August.
Meetings begin 6 p.m. and currently all planning commission meetings will be held both in person and online with a video recording uploaded to the township’s YouTube channel after the fact.
