Parking around bump outs discussed
The parking situation on Main Street (state Route 100) took another step closer to having signage posted about parking around the bump outs at the Aug. 18 Macungie Borough Council meeting. Instead of saying “no parking,” signs will be posted saying “no stopping or standing.” This concept will be advertised and be on the Sept. 2 agenda.
Whitetail Disposal has merged with another company. The new company is Casella Waste Systems Inc. Residents will not see any change in the current contract.
Mayor Ron Conrad reminded residents about the upcoming Wheels of Time beginning Aug. 22. The mayor also reminded residents about school starting and to watch for children around roadways.
The minutes from the Aug. 4 meeting were approved as was the bill list and the profit and loss financial statement.
Macungie Ambulance reported July 2025 incidents. There were 421 calls for service – 27 of which were in the borough.
The Macungie Police also presented its report. There were 206 incidents requiring dispatching. This is compared to the same month in 2024 when there were 250 incidents.
The Locust Street sidewalk project was discussed. Sidewalk drains were discussed. It was suggested to create trench drains in lieu of a pipe under the sidewalk.
Cybersecurity was discussed noting a trend where municipalities are targeted.
Attorney Chris Gerber, of Sianna Law, the borough’s labor attorney has changed law firms. He is now part of Lamb McErlane PC.
Michael Hinkle has resigned from the planning commission effective Aug. 11.
Police Officer Isaac Fries sent a letter of resignation effective Aug. 13.
Borough Administrative Assistant Ashley Rinker submitted her letter of resignation effective Aug. 12.
All resignations were accepted with regret.
There was an executive session held regarding personnel issues.
