Rain barrel workshop offered Aug. 16

Penn State Extension Master Watershed Stewards will hold two sessions of “Rain Barrel Workshop: Build Your Own” Aug. 16 at the Seed Farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road, Emmaus.

The first session will be 11 a.m. to noon. The second is scheduled 1-2 p.m.

Participants will construct their own rain barrels and explore topics such as the impact of stormwater on the environment, best management practices for homeowners, the anatomy of a rain barrel, maintenance tips and how to properly connect it to a downspout.

Organizers ask participants to bring appropriate transportation to take the rain barrel home. The rain barrels typically are compatible with the cargo space in most sport utility vehicles

Space is limited. Registration is required by Aug. 15. There is a cost, which includes a plastic 55-gallon drum and all the necessary parts and assistance to build a rain barrel for residential use.
