Route 309 in West Penn Township was closed Sunday morning due to a motor vehicle crash.

The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. in the northbound lanes on Blue Mountain at the intersection with Blue Mountain Drive.

West Penn police report a tractor trailer tanker was traveling north and attempted to make a left turn onto Blue Mountain Drive when the driver of a pickup attempted to make an illegal pass.

As the pickup was attempting to pass it caught the left front corner of the truck tractor causing the pickup to lose control sliding across the lanes of Route 309 impacting with the guide rails and rolling onto its side.

The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance before being transported to a nearby trauma center. The operator of the rig was not injured.

Route 309 was closed at Mountain Road in Lynn Township, Lehigh County and Route 895 in West Penn.

The West Penn fire company responded maintaining traffic control at the scene shutting down the roadway. West Penn Township police are investigating.
