Board gets project updates
Geoff Dean, township engineer with Keystone Consulting Engineers, provided supervisors with an update on the Buckery Road Bridge project at the Heidelberg Township Board of Supervisors July 17 meeting.
“I do have some good progress to report on our Buckery Road Bridge construction project,” Dean said. “There has been a substantial amount of work done since last month’s meeting. All of the sub-structured concrete work is done, the footings, the walls and abutments are all done and mostly back filled.
“We were out there on Monday with representatives of the conservation district and the dirt gravel road program. They started doing the stream grading and restoration work. That’s probably almost complete at this point. The bridge deck delivery is scheduled for on or about July 29 so a couple of weeks yet but they’ll be setting the deck here probably before the end of the month.
He added borrowing no unforeseen delays by next month’s meeting they will probably have a substantially completed bridge and the only thing they will still have to kind of push along is the resolution on the overhead wires. “They (PP&L) have to still set a new pole and raise those wires to resolve those clearance issue,” he said. “We were told yesterday that the township was not going to have any cost associated with that. They determined that is part of their maintenance and upgrade, so it’ll be completely provided by them.”
David Fink, director of public works, also provided an update on the public works building.
“We have been discussing a new building,” he stated. “Next week I should have more detailed information on the building itself and I will also have information on the well and detailed information for the applications that we’re going to try and find some funding for the building.”
Dawn Didra, township administrator, said during her monthly report that Katie Fabian, administrative assistant, started working on applying for a Local Share Account grant for an electronic sign and she is gathering information to submit applications for the Rex Road Bridge repairs.
“We’re going to work on applying for a statewide LSA grant for the public works building,” she stated.
During the meeting, the board unanimously approved the resignation from Virginia Hardwood from the planning commission.
The board also approved a motion to adopt Resolution 2025-23 appointing Jeffrey Kistler to the planning commission to replace the vacancy left from Hardwood’s resignation.
During the monthly report on the Farmland Preservation Advisory Committee, Fink said there will be an information meeting open basically to the public to learn about the Farmland Preservation program but the township is targeting landowners.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14.
