Supervisors discuss new UCC partnership
At the East Allen Township Board of Supervisors July 10 meeting, supervisors discussed changes with the township’s Uniform Construction Code board of appeals.
Previously, the supervisors received notice from Hanover Township, Northampton County, regarding the request to disband the joint UCC board of appeals between both communities. This is a board that meets infrequently.
East Allen Township staff reached out to other communities about sharing an appeals board. North Catasauqua Borough responded with an interest to form a joint UCC board of appeals with East Allen Township.
Township Manager Brent Green explained it is difficult to staff a UCC board of appeals because there are membership requirements a typical resident does not possess, so most applicants are considered unqualified to serve.
The final steps to develop a relationship with North Catasauqua Borough to share a UCC board of appeals will require further discussion with North Catasauqua Borough, and the East Allen Township solicitor will need to develop ordinances for advertisement and final supervisor approval.
The supervisors approved a recommendation from the planning commission for the board chairperson to approve the Seiple, Samuels, Yagerhoffer Minor Subdivisions of Sewage Facilities Planning Module Component 1. The tax parcel is K5-20-1-0508 and is just over an acre. The plan expires Aug. 14, so supervisor action was needed as soon as possible.
There was a continuation of discussion on the Township Line Road reconstruction. It was reported estimates have been prepared by both Lower Nazareth Township and East Allen Township relating to the reconstruction of Township Line Road between Silvercrest Road and the East Allen Township line. Additionally, East Allen is working on a draft of a proposed cooperation agreement between both communities.
In the public works department report, Green said the backhoe used by the department needs repair. He noted it is possible the equipment may not be repairable.
The supervisors approved the minutes of the May 22 and June 26 meetings. There was no public comment from meeting attendees at the meeting.
The supervisors approved a recommendation to ratify paying the checks 3926-4002, totaling $244,825.09.
The ambulance report for June indicated there were 35 ambulance calls. The fire department report for June included 31 fire calls.
