NASD prepares for Aug. 25 start of new school year

With the days of summer vacation waning, Northampton Area School District is gearing up for the first day of classes for the 2025-26 school year — Aug. 25. The NASD’s August calendar is chock-full of events for teachers, administrators, students and parents and guardians.
Teacher induction days were held 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 4, 5 and 6.
Northampton Area Middle School sixth-grade orientation is Aug. 13. The schedule includes 8:30-10 a.m. for Kiln 1, 10 a.m.-noon for Kiln 2 and 12:30-2 p.m. for Kiln 3.
NAMS new student orientation for seventh- and eighth-grade students who are new to the district is set for 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 14.
Northampton Area High School new student orientation for ninth-grade and new students is 9-11 a.m. Aug. 15 for last names A-J and from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 15 for last names K-Z.
District in-service days are planned for 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 19, 20 and 21.
George Wolf Elementary School kindergarten orientation is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 19.
Northampton Borough Elementary Schools kindergarten meet-the-teacher night is 4-6 p.m. Aug. 20 at Franklin Elementary School.
Lehigh Elementary School orientation for incoming kindergarten students to meet their teachers and tour the school will be 5-7 p.m. Aug. 20. New families to Lehigh Elementary also have their orientation to tour the school and see the classrooms at the same time.
George Wolf Elementary’s meet-the-teacher night is set for 6-7:45 p.m. Aug. 20.
Moore Elementary School is holding its meet-the-teacher night 6-8 p.m. Aug. 20. Parents of students in grades 1-5 are welcome.
Northampton Borough Elementary’s first-grade meet-the-teacher night will be 4-8 p.m. Aug. 21 at Siegfried Elementary School.
Moore Elementary’s new family and kindergarten parent orientation is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 21.
The NAHS open house for all students will be 6-8 p.m. Aug. 21.
The first day for students at NAMS is 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Aug. 25.
NAHS welcomes students for the first day 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 25.

At the July 21 NASD Board of Education meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve:
• Unified Champion School Bocce Ball Program with an initial cost of approximately $12,000, which includes the stipends of one head coach, two assistant coaches and equipment
• Jaclyn Grejda, head cross country coach, retroactively effective July 1, at $6,878
• Revised listing of 2025-26 fall season coaching staff, with pay rates, effective July 1-June 30, 2026
• Revised listing of individuals and pay rates to oversee intramural programs and the weight room, effective for the 2025-26 school year
• Erin Vaccaro, George Wolf Elementary nurse, effective Aug. 18, at $64,266 with benefits
• Laura Filchner, Lehigh Elementary School special education teacher, Aug. 18-March 5, 2026, at $63,655, prorated
• Tricia Meyer, Siegfried Elementary special education teacher, effective Aug. 18, at $98,187 with benefits
• Kyleigh Straub, Lehigh Elementary long-term substitute kindergarten teacher, Oct. 27-March 20, 2026, at $63,655, prorated, with no benefits
• Rochelle Figura, Lehigh Elementary instructional assistant, effective Aug. 18, at $21.38 per hour with benefits
• Kaila Cruz, NAHS hall monitor, effective Aug. 25, at $20.63 per hour
• Resignation of Ryan Johnson, Siegfried Elementary special education teacher, effective June 30
• Resignation, Claudia Bento, Siegfried Elementary teacher, effective June 24
• Revised kindergarten readiness Title I camp, June 16-19 and 23-26, and district personnel to teach: Erica Amato, Nicole Cramer, Nicole Dougherty, Jennifer Haley, Jaqueline Schucker, Denise Straub, Beth Trexler, Gina VanLuvanee and Sydney Warner. The program is grant funded through Title I available funds at no cost to district.
The board of education is next scheduled to meet 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 in the NAHS auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave.
