LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Fullerton parish holds festival

Cloudy, rainy thunderstorms cleared to a bright late afternoon just in time for the start of the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church annual parish picnic June 7. The event was held June 6 and 7, with Friday evening enduring rainy weather challenges.

The festival was on the parish grounds and resembled a street fair with children’s entertainment by Balloon Guy, games, a basketball shoot game, football toss game, face painting and more. The large moon bounce was popular with youngsters.

Adult games like bingo, a gambling wheel and raffles were also featured.

Patrons sat at tables, many with large patio umbrellas, enjoying great food and drink as they listened to the popular local band Flirtin’ with the Mob June 7. Steel Creek Band entertained June 6.

There was an animal petting area by the Lehigh County 4-H Club that featured goats, including a cute miniature Nigerian Dwarf goat named Juniper. Several bunny rabbits captured the attention of small children who enjoyed holding and petting the fluffy bunnies.

A major attraction was the ethnic and varied festival foods. The church’s famous halupki dinners were a big hit along with cabbage and noodles, funnel cakes, potato pancakes and pierogies.

Festival fare foods included delicious steak sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, sausage and peppers sandwiches and hot dogs. Desserts included snow cones, a wide variety of baked goods and waffles and ice cream.

Refreshments included beer and adult slushies along with soft drinks, coffee, tea and water.

Mackenzie and Jenn Schutt, Louise Roma and Tina Roma-Fisher cheerfully staffed the sausage sandwich and steak sandwich stand.

Cindy Keglovits and Joannie Shafer were swamped with attendees seeking to purchase food tickets.
