East Allen seeks two zoning hearing board members

East Allen Township is seeking two members for its zoning hearing board, according to an email communication. Contact the township office at 610-262-7961 or visit eatwp.org for details and to apply. The vacancies are for one full board member and one alternate board member.

The zoning hearing board meets 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month as needed.

The role of this board is to hear the cases of residents claiming a hardship by a requirement of the township zoning ordinance. The board would decide to deny the request, grant the variance or grant a special exception under the provisions to the zoning ordinance that would provide relief to the resident.

In Pennsylvania, a township zoning hearing board hears and decides on various land-use matters as outlined in the Pennsylvania Municipal Planning Code. The board essentially acts like a court for zoning-related issues, but with less formal procedures.

At the July 24 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors workshop meeting, the board adopted a resolution of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement between East Allen Township and Lower Nazareth Township for Township Line Road improvements.

East Allen has assisted in the grant for the reconstruction of Township Line Road between Silvercrest Road and the East Allen Township line. Lower Nazareth will be the applicant for both municipalities for a Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant in the requested amount of $2,077,838.40.

Resolution 2025-16 was approved to move the grant process forward.

The supervisors noted the zoning appeal for 7230 Beth-Bath Pike by Ridgeline Property Group, regarding a proposed warehouse, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 21 by the zoning hearing board in the township municipal building.

There was a continued discussion about the township public works building storage. The supervisors authorized to put out for bid requests for a temporary storage building.

The supervisors authorized the installation of spray foam insulation to the township public works building at a cost of $22,000. This is an element of the upgrade to the township public works building at 7347 Driftwood Road. Another issue identified for upgrade is the current roof insulation, which was installed in the late 1990s with limited quality installation.

The board reportedly received correspondence regarding the Sunny Slope Gas Main Phase 2 General Permit No. 5 Department of Environmental Protection Submission Notice. No action regarding the letter was taken by the supervisors at this meeting.

The supervisors approved the minutes of the July 10 board of supervisors meeting.

The next East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eatwp.org to review the meeting’s agenda and learn how to access the virtual meeting.
