Weisenberg man killed in 3-vehicle Upper Macungie Twp crash

An 82-year-old Weisenberg Township man was killed when his 2016 Lincoln MKX collided with two other vehicles 2:08 p.m. July 11 on Route 100 and West Tilghman St., Upper Macungie Township.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio, Dennis H. Smith was pronounced dead at 2:34 p.m. the same day at the scene.

An autopsy was completed July 14 at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center, Buglio said.

He said the cause of Smith’s death is multiple blunt force trauma and ruled the manner of his death an accident.

In addition to the coroner’s office, the Upper Macungie Township Police Department is investigating this crash.

According to Upper Macungie Township Police, Smith’s Lincoln was stopped at the traffic light on Route 100 northbound in the left turn lane when a 2006 Dodge Dakota driven by a 73-year-old New Tripoli man traveling behind the Lincoln struck it.

Police say after the Dodge struck the Lincoln, both vehicles then traveled into the adjacent travel lane, which was the left lane going straight, where they then struck a 2007 SAAB driven by a 27-year-old man from Philadelphia.

The Dodge suffered disabling damage, the Lincoln suffered damage and the SAAB suffered disabling damage.

According to police, the New Tripoli man sustained suspected serious injury and was transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

The Philadelphia man was not injured, police say.

In addition to the coroner’s office and Upper Macungie Township Police, the Lehigh County Crash Reconstruction Team and Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office are assisting in the crash investigation.
