North Catasauqua: St. John Fisher announces changes due to roof work, bee hive

Take note of Mass changes at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 1229 Third St., due to roof replacements. Work began the week of July 21. Due to safety concerns, Mass on July 24 will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua.

Take note that, due to a bee hive, the front entrance to St. John Fisher Catholic Church will be closed until further notice. Use the parking lot doors to enter and exit the church.

The Third Street entrance will only be an emergency exit until the bee problem is resolved. The church will keep everyone updated if there are any changes.

The North Catasauqua small Town USA summer concert series continues July 30 with the Castaway Band 6:30-9 p.m. at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.

The Castaway Band plays classic rock, modern country and favorite dance music from many past decades. The band has played at Musikfest, Mayfair, Coplay Community Days and many other venues around the Lehigh Valley.

Enjoy a summer night of great music at the park. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., is holding a half-priced sale on shoes during the month of July.

Regular store hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The shop is happy to accept donations of good, used, clean clothing, household items and toys during store hours.

Note, any donations or checks to the thrift shop must be written to Catasauqua Community Partnership or CCPI and not to the thrift shop, due to banking regulations.

Punk rock returns to small Town USA with the Punk Rock in the Park with The Clap and special guest 7-10 p.m. Aug. 1 at the park, 701 Grove St.

The show is free, but attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items for Catasauqua Area Food Bank.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will be holding its 20th annual golf tournament Aug. 1 at Southmore Golf Course, 235 Moorestown Drive, Bath. There will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start 1 p.m. Registration begins 11:30 a.m.

There is a cost, which includes green and cart fees, beer, water, soda, door prizes and a hot dinner. There will be a raffle and 50/50.

The borough zoning hearing board meeting scheduled for Aug. 4 has been canceled. This was a special exception hearing and a request for variances at the property located at 1001-1003 Second St., at the northeast corner of Second and Chapel streets.

The intended improvement will propose a 20-resident sober living facility. The property is situated in an R3 (multi-family residential) zoning district.

The next borough council meeting will tentatively take place 7 p.m. Aug. 4 in the basement-level meeting room at borough hall. The meeting is subject to change or cancellation.

The meeting will be a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit northcatasauqua.org for the access code to view the meeting virtually.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, 210 Pine St., will hold its monthly food drive 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 8 in the church parking lot. Nonperishable food items will be accepted to benefit Catasauqua Area Food Bank. Drive through to donate your items, and church volunteers will help to unload your contributions.

Public Library of Catasauqua will hold its annual yard sale 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 9 at Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua. Shop from a big selection of household goods, home decor, clothing and accessories, jewelry, toys, collectibles, tools, sporting goods and more.

Those making a purchase will receive a ticket to return 1-1:30 p.m. to shop for bargain prices. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

All proceeds benefit the library.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will hold its Sizzlin’ Summer cash bingo Aug. 17 in the parish center. The doors and the kitchen will open 11:30 a.m., with bingo beginning 1 p.m. There is a cost, which includes 15 games, six specials and one jackpot round.

No outside food or drinks are permitted. The kitchen will be selling your favorites.

Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua will hold its next free community lunch 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Aug. 18. The free community lunch is given out to folks in the community with food insecurity or those who could use a helping hand.

The church is also accepting donations for the Roughie Pantry. The pantry is set up to “love our school-aged neighbors.” The pantry is currently accepting shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, body wash, tampons, sanitary napkins, etc. Collection bins are located at the church entrances.

The Catasauqua and North Catasauqua J4 Committee is looking for new members and volunteers to help organize the community celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, which will occur in 2026. Any North Catasauqua resident interested in joining to help plan the celebration or volunteer is asked to attend a meeting or email the committee at cattyareaJ4@gmail.com and provide your contact information.

The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at borough hall.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church will hold a mystery dinner theater night Sept. 13 at the church. The “Golden Girls” Murder Mystery event begins 5:30 p.m. with a night of fun, felony and fellowship.

Your favorite ladies from the 1980s are throwing a party and you’re invited. Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia have worked long and hard to throw the perfect celebration, but will they still be celebrating when they discover a deadly flaw when a surprise guest shows up? The women uncover something deadly, and they are not at all pleased. As Sophia attempts to lighten the move with a song, someone attempts to lighten the mood with a bang! Help solve the murder with your vote.

Dinner will consist of herb-roasted chicken breast, roasted herb potatoes, salad, dessert and beverages.

There is a cost.

Catasauqua Area Food Bank, 527 Front St., is accepting donations of pasta, cereal, soup, rice, stuffing, instant potatoes, granola bars and peanut butter crackers. Donations may be dropped off during open hours, 3-4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Monetary donations are also accepted.
