LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Beat the heat

Whitehall, Coplay hold pool events

One of the best parts of summer is visiting the local pool to cool off from the heat. The summer season is sliding on by, and if you haven’t yet gotten to the pool, time is running out.

Whitehall Township Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled special programs and events to entice patrons to take a dip at the Parkview Pool, located at 3051 S. Fifth St. in Hokendauqua.

The pool’s current hours of operation are from noon to 7 p.m., with 11 a.m.-noon available for pool pass holders only; however, from Aug. 4 to Aug. 16, the hours will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

If you’re looking for a super fun time, check out the glow stick party, scheduled for 6-8 p.m. July 25. Deejay music will be provided by New Dimension Sound and Entertainment Services. On this day, the regular pool hours will close 5 p.m.

On Aug. 2, 6 and 10, 9:30-10:30 a.m., there will be free adult swim times — the perfect opportunity to enjoy pool time with just adults.

If you like volleyball, you can try pool volleyball! There will be a tournament starting 4 p.m. Aug. 3. The winning team will receive a prize. You must sign up your team at the pool before Aug. 1.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 8, there will be the back to school pool party. Deejay music will again be provided by New Dimension Sound and Entertainment Services.

It’s too late to purchase a season pass, but daily rates include the following: $10 per resident/nonresident, with photo ID, for ages 6-61 years old. There is no charge for children under age 6 and persons 62 and older. In addition, there is a $3 discount for veterans/military with proper ID. Special events, such as the glow stick party and back to school pool party, have a fee of $3.

Nonresidents will be admitted to the pool 3-7 p.m. (or until 5 p.m. on previously listed August dates) Mondays-Fridays only.

Coplay Borough’s Parkway Pool, 2 Keefer St., is open noon-7 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays. Daily admission rates for residents are $6 for ages 5-18; $7 for ages 19-61; and $2 for ages 62 and older. Daily admission rates for nonresidents include $8 for ages 5-18; $10 for ages 19-61; and $5 for ages 62 and older.

You can stay cool while exercising at Aqua Zumba, held 5:45-6:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fee is $6 for both residents and nonresidents.

Both pools have a concession stand with tasty food and refreshing drinks.

It’s hot out there — head over to the pool to cool off and have fun!
