Trojans remain atop LVL
The South Parkland Legion team has a clear nemesis for the 2025 season.
When the Lehigh Valley Legion baseball playoffs roll around, one team to watch out for could be Lower Macungie. While the Mustangs are just 6-6 on the season, they hold the distinction of being the only team that beat South Parkland this season, and they did it twice.
The two teams split a doubleheader on Friday with South Parkland winning the opener 3-0 and losing the finale 2-0. The other game played between the two teams this season was won by Lower Mac 5-2 back on June 20.
In the recent Trojan win, Andrew Bowser and Carter Wanamaker combined to shut out Lower Macungie, allowing just two hits. Bowser pitched six innings and notched three strikeouts with no walks before giving way to Wanamaker, who allowed one hit in the final inning.
South Parkland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Brady Derr and an RBI single by Andrew Klotz. The Trojans scored their other run in the sixth when Klotz, who had advanced to third after opening the inning with a double, scored on a fielding error.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, Carter Delong started for the Trojans and threw two scoreless innings before giving way to Julian Santiago. The Mustangs got to Santiago for their two runs in the third. Klotz threw two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit while striking out two for South Parkland.
The Trojans had just three singles in the game, delivered by Klotz, Mack Parsell, and Jack Streeter.
South Parkland also picked up a much easier win as it defeated Whitehall-Coplay 11-0. Sawyer Marsteller worked through six scoreless innings, striking out 12 batters before exiting with 97 pitches in the game. Wanamaker pitched a scoreless seventh for the Trojans.
Klotz and Connor Gerhart both had a pair of hits. Gerhart tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning for the first of his three runs scored on the day. Delong delivered a bases-loaded triple in the top of the seventh and later scored when Parsell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
South Parkland closes out the regular season with a doubleheader against Northern Valley.
