Iannetta hit gives Emmaus Connie Mack walk-off win
The Emmaus Senior Connie Mack team won an exciting, extra inning contest to highlight a three-game week last week where it won one and lost two.
The Hornets first lost to Forks Township 6-4 last Wednesday, but bounced back with a 3-2 victory in nine innings over Salisbury on Saturday. This past Sunday, Emmaus was shutout 9-0 against second-place Northampton.
Last Wednesday, Forks raced out to a four-run lead in the top of the first inning. The Hornets responded by tying the game with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Forks took back its lead with a run in the third and another in the fifth and did not allow Emmaus any more to take the game.
The Hornets finished with seven hits, with seven different players getting one. Braiden Marshall recorded a hit, two RBIs and a run scored and Geovany Ray tallied a hit and an RBI. Each of Ryley George, Liam Iannetta and Jesus Diaz had a hit and scored a run. Brayden Heller and Henry Pina Thevenint both contributed a hit.
In the victory over the Falcons, Salisbury scored a run in the top of the first and then erased a 2-1 deficit with another run in the second.
The Hornets’ two runs in the bottom of the first inning came on a fielding error.
Six scoreless innings followed until Iannetta walked it off for his team with an RBI single to right field that brought home Marshall.
Davey Schmidt started on the mound and threw six innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out seven. Diaz earned the win by throwing the final three innings of shut out ball, while fanning four batters.
The Kids took complete control Sunday’s game from the get-go as they scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Emmaus had just two hits, one by George and one from Ray.
Emmaus is now 4-9 overall and sits 15th out of 21 teams in the league standings with the regular season scheduled to end this week.
